The Breast Lift
As women age, their skin loses elasticity and gravity takes it’s toll. Unfortunately, this aging process affects all areas of the body, causing breasts to lose their natural shape and youthful appearance. The breast lift procedure, also known as the mastopexy, enables women to markedly improve the shape and contour of their breasts. The actual procedure aims at providing a more youthful appearance by elevating the breasts, including raising the position or the nipple and areola. A breast lift may also be performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation procedure, or a breast reduction, depending on the individual needs of the patient.
The ideal candidate for a breast lift procedure has breasts that suffer from the ravages or age, gravity, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and heredity. Their breasts may appear flat or elongated, with enlarged areolas, nipples that point downward, or off to the side, and the skin is stretched.
The breast lift operation, has the ability to lift and firm the breasts by removing excess skin, tightening the surrounding tissue, and creating a new breast contour that has greatly increased support. The breasts are then in a much more youthful position, with skin that is tight rather than stretched and lax. What a breast lift procedure will not accomplish is a significant change to the size of the breasts, neither smaller nor larger. To alter the size of the breast, Dr. Savalia may perform either a breast augmentation or a breast reduction, in conjunction with the breast lift. The breast lift procedure, also, will not round out the upper part of the breast. This is generally accomplished by adding an implant through a breast augmentation, again, performed with the breast lift procedure.
