What is a Facelift?

Time Marches On As time goes by, you may notice subtle changes in your facial appearance. Perhaps you spot new, baby wrinkles. Or maybe those little wrinkles once noticeable to only you are now revealing themselves to the world against your will. You may notice that the skin around your jowls is beginning to sag, your neck skin is losing tone, or your jawline is becoming less defined. The good news is: You don’t have to simply accept Mother Nature’s ongoing tally of your years.

Turn Back the Clock with a Facelift

A facelift is a cosmetic procedure that can help you minimize the appearance of facial aging. Designed to tone and firm the facial skin, a facelift can help you minimize wrinkles, laugh lines, frown lines, crow’s feet and other facial grooves, as well as redefine the jawline and tighten neck skin. Also called “rhytidectomy,” a facelift involves the excision of excess skin along with tightening of the facial muscles which have become lax with time. The result is a refreshed look that may help you appear years younger as well.

A facelift can correct:

  • Sagging in the midface
  • Deep creases below the lower eyelids
  • Deep creases between the nose and mouth
  • Fat that has fallen or is displaced
  • Loss of muscle tone in the lower face that may create jowls
  • Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw

Your Facelift Options

At my practice, I also offer the mini-facelift, a procedure that is much like a full facelift with a smaller incision and a quicker healing time, and the mid-facelift, a similar procedure that concentrates on refreshing the triangular area formed between the two corners of the eyes and corners of the mouth.

If you are looking for a complete facial makeover, you may also want to consider an eyelid lift or a neck lift for dramatic results. For less invasive, nonsurgical facial enhancement, you might be interested in facial fillers like collagen injections, chemical peels, or BOTOX® Treatment.
