Fat Transfer: How it Works and Where to Use it
For many people, the idea of injecting a foreign material into their bodies, even without the risk of an allergic reaction, is highly unappealing. Yet as time takes it’s toll, lines grow deeper and areas such as the cheeks appear hollow. A woman might find herself wishing for the full, plump lips of her youth, while still fearing synthetic dermal fillers. Dr. Savalia offers a solution in the form of a fat transfer. He can safely take that extra fat from a woman’s hips and give her beautiful naturally full lips again.
With the fat transfer procedure, Dr. Savalia can restore areas that have lost the vitality that they once had. A fat transfer can be used not only to fill thin lips, but also to fill in lines, or fill out other areas that may appear hollow or depreciated. By using one’s own fat cells, there is no risk of an adverse allergic reaction. Dr. Savalia gently removes fat from areas of the body such as the buttocks, stomach, or thighs, and injects it just below the skin in the area targeted for treatment. The procedure can be performed in the office with no sedation necessary. However, many of Dr. Savalia’s patients combine a fat transfer treatment with other procedures, in which case they may already in the operating room, comfortably sedated.
Increasing numbers of patients are choosing fat transfer procedures, not only to avoid allergic reactions, but because the results can be permanent; a benefit that no other dermal filler can boast. For a patient to achieve ideal results, several treatments may be necessary. Generally, approximately 20-30% of the injected fat from the initial treatment becomes permanent. Dr. Savalia uses this as the foundation upon which to build with the following treatments. Fat transfer patients may also benefit greatly from combining the treatment with other procedures. Botox and Juvederm, or a facelift can help achieve phenomenal overall results, lasting for years to come.
