While many Orange County women desire to have the size of their breasts enlarged, there are an equal, if not greater, number of women who would prefer smaller breasts. Large breasts may cause a woman physical and mental discomfort and can even result in self-consciousness, improper posture, pain in the back and neck, indentations from bra straps, skin rashes, breathing problems and skeletal deformities.
What can I expect during the breast reduction surgery?
Breast reduction surgery is usually done to provide physical relief from these symptoms, not for cosmetic reasons. Performed under general anesthesia, the two to four hour procedure removes fat and glandular tissue and trims resultant excess skin to produce smaller, lighter breasts that are in a healthier proportion to the rest of the body. Techniques vary, but the most common procedures involve making an anchor-like incision or a lollipop-like incision on the breast. Breast reduction surgery is not recommended for women who intend to breast-feed, since many of the milk ducts leading to the nipples are removed.
When considering a breast reduction procedure, what options are right for me?
After undergoing breast reduction surgery, most women find that they can now return to social, physical, and intimate activities that they felt isolated from, wear the clothing they desire, enjoy relief from constant pain, and even go on to lose additional weight. There are many options in planning a breast reduction, and Dr. Savalia will discuss which ones are right for you. Based on the size and shape of your breasts and your individual goals, he can recommend the ideal operation and placement of scars with you.
