Earlobe repair for a torn earlobe is a commonly performed procedure by Dr. Savalia for many Orange County patients. Over time, a pierced earlobe can become stretched due to large or heavy earrings, resulting in a large opening that may even tear completely through the lobe. Often, a torn earlobe can result from trauma, such as having an earring pulled by a child or caught on clothing. Whether you have a partial tear or a complete tear, the torn earlobe can be repaired in Dr. Savalia’s Orange County office.
How is the Torn Earlobe Repaired ?
Commonly, the earlobe can be partially torn, so that the hole has enlarged, but not torn all the way through the earlobe. Whether the earlobe is partially torn or completely torn, the repair is performed under local anesthesia in Dr. Savalia’s Orange County office. After injecting the earlobe with a small amount of local anesthetic, Dr. Savalia will “freshen” the edges of the torn lobe by removing a small amount of skin. Then, using fine sutures, such as those used in a facelift, the earlobe is meticulously repaired to reconstruct a normal, rounded, earlobe.
What happens after Earlobe Surgery?
You will be able to return home immediately after the procedure. There will be a small bandage covering your stitches. One week after the earlobe repair is performed, Dr. Savalia will remove the stitches.
When can I pierce my earlobes again?
After the earlobe has healed and the scar has softened, it can be re-pierced in an area away from the scar. Usually, Dr. Savalia recommends waiting at least 3 months prior to piercing the repaired earlobe.
