A facelift, also called "rhytidectomy", smoothes the loose skin on your face and neck, tightens the underlying tissue, and removes excess fat. As a result, your face will appear firmer and fresher. The results may be dramatic or subtle, depending on the patient's appearance before surgery and the goals that she/he and Dr. Savalia have established. In addition to traditional facelift surgery, Dr. Savalia uses the following procedures to turn back the hands of time:
Mini Facelift
Also known as the short scar facelift, the mini-facelift is best suited for people in their 40s and 50s who have good skin tone, but are starting to see some laxity in their lower face around the jaw. While some patients may not be ready for a full-fledged facelift, they still want to reverse and stave off the aging process. The mini facelift surgery is similar to a traditional facelift, but the scar is shorter and there are fewer potential complications. There is also less swelling of the face post-operatively and the recovery period is shorter than with a standard facelift. Most patients can usually return to work after five to seven days.
Mid-Facelift
The mid-face lift is a popular option for patients in their 30s and 40s. The mid-facelift focuses on a triangular area formed between the two corners of the eyes and the corner of the mouth. A good sign that you might benefit from a mid-face lift is if you find that the area of your cheek directly under your eyes is flat or sunken in. By working on the face's deeper layers, Dr. Savalia can reposition the underlying fat, and the actual muscles so that the middle of the face is pulled up and looks more natural. It also takes the tension off the flesh. A mid-face lift can be performed in Dr. Savalia's Orange County outpatient surgicenters in as little as an hour, and can be done by itself or in conjunction with other procedures.
Am I a good candidate for a facelift?
Every year, thousands of people in and around Orange County undergo successful facelift surgery and are pleased with the results. Men as well as women can benefit from facelift surgery. For some men, the procedure may need to be modified somewhat for optimal results.
One or more of the following conditions may indicate that you are a good candidate for a facelift:
- a deep line, or fold, running from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth
- jowls, or loss of a well-defined jaw line, associated with youthfulness
- deep wrinkles in the cheeks and sagging of the "highlight" areas of the cheekbones
- loose skin, wrinkles, vertical "cords" or excess fatty tissue in the neck
A facelift can improve all of these problems. It cannot, however, correct conditions such as sagging eyebrows, excess skin and fatty deposits in the upper and lower eyelids, or wrinkles around the mouth. Dr. Savalia can provide further information if you have interest in other procedures to treat these areas, such as brow lift, eyelid surgery or lip augmentation.
How long will the results of a facelift last?
How long the results of your facelift will last depends on many variables including your heredity and lifestyle factors. Even though the aging process continues, patients are very happy with their appearance for many years following a facelift. Some patients find that they want to make additional improvements at a later time.
