As you age, your face and features may begin to lose volume. A fat transfer procedure can be used to plump thin lips, fill in lines or fill out sunken cheekbones. And because the fat used in the injection comes from your own body, there is no concern about adverse reactions or unwanted chemicals. In addition to facial rejuvenation, fat transfer can also be used to "liposculpt" areas of the body where there is an irregular contour.
Am I a good candidate for fat transfer?
You are a good candidate for fat transfer if you have excess fat in another part of your body that can be used for the injections. You should also be prepared for repeat treatments, as multiple sessions are often required to reach the desired results.
What should I expect during the fat transfer procedure?
Dr. Savalia will remove existing fat cells from other parts of your body such as the buttocks, stomach, or thighs using a thin syringe connected to a vacuum device. Dr. Savalia then injects the fat into the target area, just beneath the skin. The procedure is done in the office, and sedation is not required.
You should see results from your fat transfer treatment within seven days. You can expect roughly 20% of the injected fat to survive permanently, while the remaining fat will dissolve over time. To achieve a permanent result, a few repeated treatments may be necessary.
Dr. Savalia may suggest alternative treatment options to optimize your results. Depending on your goals you might consider other injectables such as Botox, Restylane, or Juvederm. Dr. Savalia might also suggest a surgical procedure, such as a facelift or forehead lift.
