Dr. Savalia has extensively researched the use of Botox Cosmetic® to eliminate or reduce frown lines, forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and chin dimpling. He is offering this to his patients because of the high satisfaction rates and the high degree of safety that this procedure offers. Botox® works by temporarily weakening certain muscles in the face that produce undesirable wrinkles.
Botox Injections
Dr. Savalia injects small quantities of Botox® using an extremely small 30 gauge needle into the frown lines, the forehead area, the crow’s feet, and/or the chin depending on your wishes. It takes two days to notice the effects of the weakened muscles. The only known significant complication from this procedure is the slight possibility in 1% of the patients of having eyelid droop, which if it does occur, usually clears within a week.
The injection takes only a few minutes, and is almost painless. After the procedure, in order to avoid having the Botox® drift out of position, you are instructed to stay in the upright position for four hours after the injection. Do not lie down, and do not go to a hair dresser. Do not rub the area or else the Botox® could be pushed out of position. You are however encouraged to exercise the muscles that are injected so as to help the Botox become more effective in weakening the specific muscle that you are in fact exercising. In addition, to reduce any potential bruising, please refrain from using any aspirin or aspirin-like products, such as Advil, Ibuprofen, Motrin. You are to return to our office in two weeks for a follow-up visit after the full effect of the Botox® has worked.
Botox Lasts for 4 Months
The effect of Botox® lasts approximately four months, and will need to be repeated every four to six months to maintain the effect. The benefit of maintaining is that less and less Botox will need to be injected less and less frequently. Occasionally, a touch-up injection is necessary at two to four weeks to fully get the desired effect. If there is further information you desire about Botox®, do not hesitate to contact our office.
